Diana’s Punchbowl

Diana’s Punchbowl is a striking natural geothermal feature in Monitor Valley, Nye County, central Nevada, often called the Devil’s Cauldron. It’s formed where hot mineral‑rich groundwater rises along a fault and has built a huge, circular travertine mound topped by a cup‑shaped basin about 50 feet (15 m) wide and 30 feet (9 m) deep, with scalding water at the bottom that can exceed ~140–190 °F (60–88 °C). The dramatic bowl isn’t safe for bathing, but its vivid colors and steam make it a notable geological curiosity and photo spot in Nevada’s remote high desert.
